What does the custom home design process involve?
Our process begins with an initial consultation to understand how you want to live, what matters most to you in a home and any specific requirements for your site. We then develop a concept design, which is refined through a collaborative review process until it accurately reflects your vision.
Once the design is finalised, we prepare detailed construction documentation and lodge all necessary council and building approvals. Throughout this phase, you receive detailed cost estimates so the budget stays aligned with the design. Construction then begins with a site manager overseeing every stage of the build through to handover.

Founded in 2007 by Paul Serra, we’ve spent over 15 years crafting premium custom residences in Perth. Paul’s passion for building developed whilst working alongside his father. We’ve evolved from a small building company to become one of the city’s most respected custom custom home builders.

What is the difference between a custom home builder and a project home builder?
A project home builder works with a set catalogue of pre-designed floor plans that can be modified within certain limits. A custom home builder like Averna designs every home individually, starting with a blank page. There is no fixed plan or template. The design is shaped entirely by your block, your lifestyle and your preferences.
Every element of the home is purposeful, including room layouts, ceiling heights, material selections and architectural detailing. Custom building also allows for more complex sites, including sloping blocks or narrow lots, where a standard project home simply wouldn’t work.
